Programs
BYTE was established in 2015 to support children and communities in the US/Mexico border region. This directive highlighted refugee youth and families waiting for asylum hearings in the border humanitarian sector. Over 9-years BYTE’s scope broadened to healing and job readiness in youth and adult prisons and trauma-informed coaching for mental and behavioral health.
BYTE now operates year-round in California, Arizona, and Mexico, serving over 3000 student-athletes annually at 13 in-person sites. Student-athletes range from age 6 to age 75, the majority living in locked institutional settings. BYTE expertise is high quality bilingual instruction and adapting curricula for public health settings and students-athletes with histories of acute trauma.
