Charlie Cutler
Founder & Executive Director
Charlie founded BYTE and taught its first tennis classes in Ambos Nogales in 2015 while completing masters research in Southern Arizona detention centers. Under Charlie’s leadership BYTE grew from a summer tennis program for 30 kids into a year-round, multinational operation serving over 3000 student-athletes annually at 14 in-person sites in three states (CA, AZ, & Sonora MX).
Charlie’s expertise is program design, coach education, and integrating trauma-informed education strategies in a sport context. This includes creating custom sport and enrichment courses for locked facility humanitarian, public health, and prison spaces.
Charlie has coached all levels (community, club, collegiate, high-performance) in his 15-year career and is now part of the USTA National Coach Developer Academy, facilitating workshops to train the next generation of coaches.
Prior to becoming a coach Charlie competed professionally, achieving an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world singles ranking of #1420.
Charlie is passionate sports can change lives through opportunities to grow, heal, find community, and improve health.
